Current Floral Series Nov 2016 - Current
I began making these wreaths as a commentary on the cheap nature of american death rituals. We don't have any true cultural traditions in the western world except for a church, some flowers, and some tripod collage of family photos. This always made me uneasy i guess, scared of living our your entire life just to be summed up in a slapped together presentation with repeated vague send offs whether you were religious or not. I was drawn to these wreaths every time I'd see one over the years, always adorned with a ribbon to say something incredibly vague like hero, father, or just somebody's first name. The pieces are based in phrases or phrasing I see racing thru my screens and our current psyche. All arrangements are done by hand.
